Using linear mixed models to analyze data from eye-tracking research on subtitling

چکیده

Abstract In this paper, we aim to promote the use of linear mixed models (LMMs) in eye-tracking research on subtitling. Using eye tracking study viewers’ reading subtitles often warrants controlling for many confounding variables. However, even assuming that these variables are known researchers, such control may not be possible or desired. Traditional statistical methods as t -tests ANOVAs exacerbate problem due aggregated data: each participant has one data point per dependent variable. As a solution, propose LMMs, which better suited account number subtitle and characteristics, thus explaining more variance. We introduce essential theoretical aspects LMMs highlight some their advantages over traditional methods. To illustrate our point, compare two analyses same dataset: using -test; another LMMs.

Analyzing Behavioral Markers of Autistic Children Using Eye Tracking Data

Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs in the early years of life and is characterized by social impairment, verbal and non-verbal communication difficulties as well as stereotypical behaviors. Rehabilitating autistic children at the early stages of growth, in which their brain is highly flexible, yields to enhanced treatment process and provid...

Using eye tracking data to compare models of numerical estimation

People accurately compare and estimate means without using formal calculations, however, little is known about the cognitive processes underlying these behaviors. We used objective, behavioral data (e.g., eye fixation patterns), which are compatible with multiple representations, to compare cognitive models. Specifically, we compared seven cognitive models including working memory activation (w...

Using generalized additive (mixed) models to analyze single case designs.

This article shows how to apply generalized additive models and generalized additive mixed models to single-case design data. These models excel at detecting the functional form between two variables (often called trend), that is, whether trend exists, and if it does, what its shape is (e.g., linear and nonlinear). In many respects, however, these models are also an ideal vehicle for analyzing ...

The Relation between Hearing Loss and Smoking among Workers Exposed to Noise, Using Linear Mixed Models

Introduction: Noise is one of the most common and harmful physical factors in the working environment and has physical and psychological effects on individuals. In this study, the audiometry results of industrial workers were modeled and the effect of noise and other factors on hearing loss was examined.   Materials and Methods:                                                 ...
